2017 Fantastic Cinema & Craft Beer Festival Presented by ACURA Announces Feature Film Official Selections and Special Events

Fantastic Cinema Announces Feature Film Line-up and Special Events; Highlights Include Tribeca Film Festival Stand-Out, Made in Arkansas Films, Syfy Original Series, Screamfest Award Winner, Two Fantastic Music Experiences, and Retrocade

LITTLE ROCK, Ark – (April 24, 2017) The Film Society of Little Rock, a non-profit organization focused on providing innovative and unique programming and events, has announced the feature film and special event lineup for the 3rd Annual Fantastic Cinema & Craft Beer Festival Presented by Acura to be held from Mary 3-7, 2017 at Ron Robinson Theater.

The 2017 lineup features a wide variety of films that have screened at festivals lineup Tribeca, Seattle International Film Festival, Sidewalk, Oxford Film Festival, Screamfest, and more. With a wide variety of films and events, some of the highlights include:

  • All The Birds Have Flown South: Directed by the Josh and Miles Miller and shot in Arkansas with primarily an all Arkansas cast and crew, after premiering at the prestigious Seattle International finally receives an Arkansas Premiere.
  • Blood Drive: Double feature premiere screening of Syfy's grindhouse-inspired original series
  • Super Dark Times: Fresh off a hot North American Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, this genre defying feature is sure to leave audiences in awe.
  • Kodak Shoot On Film! Competition Shorts: A special screening of short films shoot on real film stock, with the winner taking home $2000 in film stock courtesy of Kodak!
  • Alan Howarth Live!: A special live concert performance by legendary composer Alan Howarth.
  • The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with Live Score: A special screening of the 1920 classic silent film featuring a live original score performed by Mainland Divide.

This year’s festival will also feature a new element we believe our audience will enjoy, a “retrocade”!  All festival pass holders will have an opportunity to play a variety of classic arcade games, all set to free play!  Arcades are provided by Z82 Retrocade in Sherwood, Ark, an Official Sponsor of Fantastic Cinema.

BLOOD DRIVE

Welcome to BLOOD DRIVE, a new grindhouse-inspired series soaked in high-octane chaos and just barely approved for television.  After Los Angeles’ last good cop is forced to join a twisted cross-country death race, his only hope of survival is a dangerous femme fatale. Oh, and forget gasoline… these cars run on human blood.  Together the unlikely pair embark on this dangerous competition where either you’re first…or you’re fuel.  The series, starring Alan Ritchson (“Smallville”) and Christina Ochoa, (“Animal Kingdom”) is from Universal Cable Productions and executive producers John Hlavin ("Underworld: Awakening") and David Straiton ("Bates Motel”). BLOOD DRIVE premieres on SYFY June 14 at 10/9c.

After a deadly virus wipes out most of humanity, the survivors are forced to wait alone in self-sustaining bunkers while the viral threat runs its course. Able to communicate through a networked video interface, the survivors wait for years and slowly become a motley family of sorts. But their fragile social ecosystem is shattered when, one by one, they start mysteriously disappearing from their bunkers.

Happy Hunting follows Warren, a degenerate drifter, suffering from debilitating alcohol withdrawals on a daily basis. On his way down to Mexico, he becomes stranded in Bedford Flats, a one-horse town nestled deep in the American desert. It was a once-prosperous hunting community that has been reduced to an impoverished dust bowl. Unfortunately for Warren, it turns out that the town’s pastime is rounding up drifters and hunting them as part of an elaborate sporting event. To make matters worse, he'll go into alcoholic withdrawal unless he finds a way to stay loaded. It all builds to a blood-soaked, live-or-die showdown in the desert.
